About IPBES in Denmark

IPBES in Denmark integrates IPBES’s knowledge and resources into Danish academic communities and policy. IPBES operates on an interdisciplinary basis and involves researchers from a wide range of academic fields. At the same time, the Danish office ensures that the knowledge IPBES generates in response to requests from member countries is conveyed to Danish decision-makers once the conclusions have been approved. Finally, IPBES in Denmark is responsible for communicating IPBES’s activities and findings to both policymakers and the general public.

IPBES in Denmark is funded through a collaboration between departments at six Danish universities: Aalborg University (AAU), Aarhus University (AU), Copenhagen Business School (CBS), the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the University of Copenhagen (KU), and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The Ministry of Green Tripartite Cooperation also serves as the government’s point of contact for IPBES on Denmark’s steering committee.

A new cooperation agreement for 2023–2025 has been signed by the six universities and the Ministry of the Environment (the former government focal point) regarding the Danish IPBES cooperation for a new three-year period valid through 2025. The agreement was signed at the university president level and by the ministry’s director-general, ensuring that the IPBES collaboration is firmly anchored in the respective institutions.
